Our Dogs
Black Dog Farm breeds and trains German Shepherd Dogs from lines that represent the breed's original character. We strive to respect and honor the motto of the breed's founder, Capt. Max von Stephanitz: "Utility and Intelligence." Our dogs are bred foremost for their mental stability, trainability and athleticism. To this we add correct size and structure, which are so important in producing a healthy dog able to withstand the demands of sport, work or active companionship. We test our breeding stock by training and titling them in Schutzhund, the traditional German Shepherd Dog breed test and sport, as well as in other venues such as AKC Obedience trials. But we also assess their temperament as reliable, stable family companions.
All our dogs are either hand-selected European imports or the offspring of imports. We draw from both strict working (e.g. police K-9) and sport working (e.g. Schutzhund) lines. As a result, we can offer you dogs that are bred with the potential to be sport, police, home or family protection dogs, therapy or assistance dogs, obedience and/or agility dogs, search and rescue dogs or just wonderful family companions.
Our Services
All our puppies/dogs are sold with a health guarantee that also covers genetic disorders. Puppies/dogs are already well socialized in multiple environments, family-oriented and usually housebroken. All puppies come with a puppy starter kit outlining their care and training. All adult dogs come with guidelines for their care as well as training videos showing their current level of training. All sales include a basic obedience course for puppies and their owners once the puppy has completed all of his/her shots. For adult dog sales, there is a two-day course for the new owner on how to properly handle and communicate with his/her trained dog. In addition, we can arrange ongoing training courses at our facility as well as private training.
About Us
Jason McNew is the founder and Training Director of the Iron Dog Schutzhund Club, has titled multiple working dogs and competed successfully at a National level. Carol Borden has bred, raised and trained dogs professionally, titling multiple show champions and achieving obedience titles in various breeds, taught obedience classes, and has a certified veterinarian technician background.
